Foremost CARIBBEAN COLORS Larimar...The Gemstone of the Caribbean Larimar is a beautiful Gemstone which mirrors the blue waters of the Caribbean. It is only found in one small area of the world; located on a remote mountaintop on the Island of Hispanola. Larimar was discovered 30 years ago by a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic. While working with local fishermen who used rocks as anchors, he noticed the blue colors when the stones were chipped, as they were dropped. This led to a three year search following the trail of the blue stones eventually up a stream to the mountain top. They finally found the origin in 1984 where the only two mines are now located . The stone's name "Larimar" was derived from his daughter's name which was Larissa and combined with the Spanish word for ocean "Mar", the nameLarimar was conceived. It is now a registered Gemstone with the Gemological Institute of America. Over the years Larimar has gained popularity throughout the world as a precious Gemstone. Larimar has been classified as a Pectolite, has the hardness of 5 and is volcanic in origin. Larimar is claimed to have many metaphysicalproperties. Spiritually, Larimar brings emotional harmony. It is ideal for cooling fiery energy, for soothing anger, and for bringing in a gentle joy. Channeled information indicates that Larimar "represents peace and clarity, emitting energy of healing and love". People feel if the stone is worn touching the skin, the powers will be transferred. NOTE: We do not guarantee the color of these stones. Most are now a "milkier" color than shown.
